VP of Finance

Students Offering Support (SOS) is a youth-driven charity that ‘elevates education and ignites leaders’, locally and globally. Since 2008, our programs have been delivered on more than twenty-five campuses across Canada and 12 countries around the world, supporting an engaging 10,000 past volunteers and supporting an estimated 250,000 youth globally. Our most popular programs include: Exam Aids, Outreach Trips, Textbooks for Change, and the MCAT for Social Impact Scholarship!



Role Description:

As the VP of Finance, you will support SOS’ operations across all departments to help your Chapter reach its financial goals, and ensure operational excellence. This includes coordination for all aspects of your Chapters budgeting, reporting, accounting and reconciliations processes, and cash flow management, while ensuring compliance with National Policies and Procedures (built in accordance with the Canadian Revenue Agency (CRA)’s standards for registered charities).


Responsibilities:
  • Establishing your Chapters Annual Budget through participation in Goal Setting and Strategic Planning activities with other Executive members and SOS National Head Office throughout the summer

  • Participating in Skill Development and Training Sessions with SOS National Head Office and other volunteers from across the country; and,
    • Familiarizing yourself with SOS national systems and policies to support effective Chapter operations

 

  • Supporting day-to-day coordination of Chapter finances, including:
    • Overseeing the collection, management, and depositing of funds
    • Reviewing, approving, and processing Chapter expenses
    • Recording all transactions into a Quickbooks Online account and completing regular reviews and reconciliations to ensure accuracy
    • Facilitating Signing Authority Transfers
    • Providing oversight to ensure accuracy and timeliness of all financial procedures across the entire Chapter volunteer team
    • Applying for and managing additional campus funding opportunities (eg. from Student Union)

  • Coordinate and oversee a team of Finance volunteers to assist delivery of duties

  • Attend weekly meetings among the Executive team throughout the year to support cross-departmental collaboration
    • Managing Chapter finances in accordance with the approved budget
    • Preparing regular reports to compare ‘projected to actuals’ to ensure your entire chapter is familiar with your Chapters progress towards revenue goals

  • You have the capacity to meet regularly with your Executive team, departmental volunteers, and SOS’ National Head Office to support achievement of objectives
  • Familiarity with SOS’ Operations are an asset; existing knowledge and skills in the subject matter areas relating to your position are a strong asset

Availability to contribute to Goal Setting and Strategic Planning activities throughout the summer is an asset
